I really like the analogy to motor-related technology. Just like regulations for motors in warplanes look completely different that regulations for motors in hoverboards, regulations for AI in consumer facial recognition software and regulations for private sector AI used develop drugs should look completely different. Even if the AI-concept of using an algorithm as a means to achieve an end is the same, the externalities created by the process of reaching these vastly different ends are completely different. We need government to address these externalities at the industry/economic-sector level, not the AI-concept level.
